Rabah Amir defended his PhD at the University of Illinois. He has since then held positions in several countries and several institutions, including Yale University (post-doc), SUNY-Stony-Brook, CORE (University of Louvain), University of Arizona and University of Iowa.

He has published over 60 articles, many of them in top journals: Economic Theory, Games and Economic Behavior, Journal of Economic Theory, Journal of Mathematical Economics, Journal of Public Economics, The Review of Economic Studies and The Review of Economics and Statistics.

His research lies in different areas of economics and management science: game theory, economic dynamics, industrial organization and more recently environmental, public and resource economics. He is renowned for his work on the study of strategic substitutability and complementarity in economics and the answers these concepts can provide to problems encountered in various subfields of economics.

His editorial service over the years concerns: Economic Theory, Games and Economic Behavior, International Game Theory Review, International Journal of Industrial Organization, Journal of Dynamics & Games, Journal of Public Economic Theory, The Manchester School, and Theory and Decision.

Noticeable distinctions: Denmark awarded him the Handelsbanken Research Prize in 1998 and he was nominated Economic Theory Fellow in 2011 by the Society for the Advancement of Economic Theory, and Council member of the Game Theory Society in 2015.
